I started another sampler quilt, a little modern one this time using modern fabric.

I am joining along the 100days100blocks sew-along hosted by Gnome Angel.

If you want to join along, the quilt-along is made using the Kinship Sampler Quilt Pattern. You can get the pattern for 10% off with code AMIRA here.

Prepping

I did starch my fabrics and printed my pattern before 1st July when the quilt-along kick-started this year. You can read more detail about homemade starch and the way I starch here.

The rough plan for my Kinship Sampler Quilt

While today is day 10 as I write this post, I have only the first 6 to show you. I’ll be updating from time to time just as I did with the previous quilt-along that I follow along. Check out my finished Sewcilate quilt here for the latest finish of a sew-along.

I will try to make 100 blocks, but I may not be making them one a day, that just won’t fit into my schedule. Besides, I find that I am more efficient when I batch cut a set of blocks and then sewing them in another batch of time.

This is one of the best things I learned when following along with a quilt-along. Do what works for you. No pressure.

I have no specific plan on the colour placing, simply going scrappy with the colours. I hope that the distribution would be balanced throughout by the end of the quilt-along.

Quilt-along benefits

I do love sew-along or quilt-along as it keeps me on the tab with my projects. I am also more inspired by seeing other’s progress and that kind of kicks my motivation to get into the sewing room and sew them.

By the end of the quilt-along, it is always fun to see the finished quilt that is made little by little. Sampler quilt is great for a quilt along as it provides the variation and there’s always something to learn with different blocks made.

Starting my Kinship Sampler Quilt

For this quilt, I decided to dive into my Tula Pink Fabric stash, all fun, and bright colours.

You can find Tula Pink here, and some of these fabrics are still available. The stripes and dots are great basics to have in stash.

I think it is turning out really fun and great.

Some of the pieces were fussy cut and I truly enjoyed cutting these pieces.

The blocks are pretty easy and the Kinship pattern really suits this 100days100blocks challenge. It is very doable as they’re not complicated and can easily highlight beautiful fabric.

I can’t wait to piece more of the blocks and surely this quilt is a lot of fun with all the beautiful prints.

What do you think? Are you up for another quilt-along? Come and join us!

  1. Your blocks look great in Tula Pink! I’m doing the same QAL and using black and white with some bits of green for fun,

  2. I love your choice of fabrics! I am trying to replicate your overall look. Thank you so much for the inspiration!
