Welcome back to my little corner of the internet. Today, I’m excited to invite you into my sewing room to talk about something that’s near and dear to my heart: the scrap life.

If you’re anything like me, you probably have a stash of fabric scraps that seems to multiply overnight. But fear not, because those seemingly insignificant pieces of fabric hold endless possibilities, waiting to be transformed into beautiful creations. Last year, I had the opportunity to share my love for scraps at the Scrap Summit event. It was such a joy connecting with fellow quilters and discussing our shared passion for making the most out of every last bit of fabric. If you missed it, don’t worry—I’ll be sharing more about the upcoming Scrap Summit in 2024 soon!

Since Summit 2023 has long past, I uploaded the video on my YouTube channel simply to share with you the life of scraps in my sewing room.

The Joy of Sorting Scraps

One of my favorite rituals in my sewing room is sorting through my fabric scraps. There’s something incredibly therapeutic about organizing them by color, size, or even print. Not only does it help me declutter my workspace, but it also sparks inspiration for future projects. I have previously talked about how I go through my scraps in this post HERE, and there hasn’t been much of a change. When things seems to work, let’s try and keep it that way!

Turning Scraps into Treasures

But sorting scraps is just the beginning of the journey. The real fun begins when I start turning those scraps into gifts. From patchwork coasters to fabric bookmarks, there’s no shortage of creative projects that can be made with scraps.

One of my go-to gifts is a simple fabric keychain / key fob. With just a few scraps and some basic sewing skills, you can create a personalized accessory that’s both practical and stylish. It’s the perfect way to add a pop of color to your keys or bag while using up those leftover scraps. Part from that, scrappy pouches are also my go to!

Join the Scrap Life

So, whether you’re a seasoned quilter or just starting out on your sewing journey, I encourage you to embrace the scrap life. Take a moment to sort through your scraps, get creative with your projects, and share the love with your fellow quilters. I hope this post has inspired you to dive into your own stash of scraps and see where your creativity takes you. And remember, no scrap is too small to make a difference in your next quilting masterpiece.

Please also do let me know in the comment below, how does the scrap life look like in your sewing room? We can always inspire each other and there’s always something new and inspiring that I learn from other quilters like you too.
