NOTE : I no longer promote Craftsy/Bluprint as I used to due to the way the subscription is currently being carried out. I had the issue of cancelling my subscription when the company changed hand and I find that cancelling through calls is inconvenient. However, I do still stand behind these classes I promote and if you are subscribed, you can surely check these classes I recommend on the platform. If you are looking for another online platform to learn craft such as quilting, do check out CreativeBug. It is much cheaper in subscription (subscribe now 3 months for only $5). Thank you.

Welcome to another “Three of 3 on A Tuesday”. I will have THREE things or links of 3 topics for you to visit/read every Tuesday to either showcase tutorials, inspirations, random daily thoughts or it could be any fabric/notion sales running that particular week. So for today, here are the THREE of 3 things:

3 Log Cabin Quilts

Log cabin quilt is probably one of the common quilt made out there. It is very beginner’s friendly too. Have you made one?

I was watching this class by Marti Mitchell the other day this week and learned a few more new to me things. Like, the possible originality of the log cabin – the inspiration may have come from the mummy specimen that was in a museum!

Anyway, the class taught me that cutting the pieces to size before stitching them together is important to get the right accurate block size instead of trimming after sewing.

The class also covered the right way to cut the pieces, grain wise etc. So it was very interesting to learn something new from a simple old block that I personally have made before too.

If you are on Bluprint, I recommend taking a quick look at the class – search for log cabin. I love Marti’s calm style of teaching.

I am working on a log cabin myself using the paper-foundation which I am using my pattern HERE. I’ll share the finish soon. Hence it is the perfect time to just pop in with more inspiration of the log cabin quilt.

Here are three beautiful log cabin quilt for inspirations:

  1. Can’t miss this one. I love scrappy quilts, but with a touch of some strong gingham and stripe anchors, this quilt just speak for itself. There is also a link to the tutorial in the post.
  2. Confetti Cabin Quilt. Almost didn’t look like a log cabin block at first, but this is a great way to use up Jelly Rolls. The on-point layout and the color layout is perfect.
  3. Another scrappy version. This one is from left-over binding strips! Love the white anchoring all of the scrappiness.

3 things you can check out

  1. Cotton Batting by the roll on SALE here. I love buying by the roll, saves me money and I don’t have to think whether i’ll have enough for the quilt I’m making.
  2. This felt pressing mat I heard many are talking about these days. I am intrigued to get one myself with the 5-star Review here.
  3. Get your tools sorted and easy to carry around with this stash-n-store. There are new color options too.

3 updates on the coming soon mentioned last week here.

  1. The pattern is on its way. Working on the computer for that purpose.
  2. Free Motion Quilting In a week Challenge – maybe this will shift to early September instead, getting people to settle in with back-to-school routine and I still need to tweak a little more of the challenge emails.
  3. I started sewing strips together already for the scrappy trip along!

What are you up to this week?

comment below, I’d love to hear from you.

  1. After a lovely summer with my sewing machine (three quilt tops completed), I am heading back to work this morning for the first day of the new school year. I have 168 new students to meet…my new extended family for the next nine months, so I will need to manage sewing time around the grading of essays!
