3 Amazing Quilting in Negative Space

One of the thing I love most about quilts is the texture of the quilts created by the quilting process itself. And also if they create secondary patterns and enhances the piecing.

  1. Sarah’s book is coming out soon and in there, she has this amazing quilt that I caught over on her Instagram and just drool over the quilting on it! Make sure you swipe the photo to see more detail. The piecing is great too by the way – Sarah is so good with unique foundation paper pieced quilts.
  2. Oh the birds is like singing in their own paradise with the beautiful background quilting in this quilt!
  3.  This is an amazing applique quilt made super amazing with beautiful quilting. I just love looking at how quilting really does make the applique pieces pop. Someday I will try and do something like this.

Now, most of these are long-arm professionally quilted, but if you know me – I’d say these are not impossible to do with the domestic machine too! I can prove that for sure. And I have come to the point where I am confident to say I don’t need a long -arm to make such quilting (unless if I have lots of dollars and space to spare for one, then why not right? :))

[related: my Irish chain quilt – that photo above. I have come a long way from that now that i am more confident Free motion quilting, I used nylon invisible thread at that time for that quilt! Yikes. They just make the quilt stiff – just so you know.]

3 Fun Quilty Books to check out

  1. I love quick projects – and you’ll love this book if you have some of those candy charm squares that you buy just for fun! It’ll work great with scraps too.
  2. Want to know how make a FREE quilt? (FREE as in a bonus quilt while you make another quilt). Check out this book. A must have. Not only there are patterns, the technique itself is worth practicing.
  3. If you love sampler quilt, you’ll love this book. I have the first book and now pre-ordering the second one, though I might get the first one as a physical copy too. I am not loving an e-book version of books much. Besides, they can’t stay pretty on the shelf. 🙂

3 things happening around my sewing room

  1. My computer is acting up… so I haven’t been writing blog post much this week- most of the one popping in are safely written from my phone or have previously been written and scheduled.
  2. I have window grills (those safety bars) installed around the house and that include the window in my sewing room. This is a common practice in Malaysia – for safety. But also because we live in a rural area where there are monkeys around – so it’ll be safer for me to have those bars but it also means not a really clear view out the window.
  3. I am binding my scalloped edged Wedding ring Quilt! It is a long way up and down the hills of those curves…it’ll be done soon and I’ll blog all about the finish. Promise.
