Another William Morris Layer Cake Table Runner

For this project, I used the same layer cake I used for the previous table runner I made late last year which I posted HERE>. The layer cake is from one of William Morris collections. I picked the specifically in dark, moody hues that I adore for this project and matched it with a beige tone on tone background. There’s something so captivating about William Morris designs—the intricate patterns and timeless elegance always leave me in awe. The table runner top actually was completed at the same time with the  wintery table runner I made last year. Can you believe it took me an entire year to finally finished the project?  Time has flown by so quickly!

The design is a simple grid-like pattern, which made the piecing process a breeze. Watching the blocks come together was such fun, with each one highlighting the stunning details of those William Morris prints. Isn’t just gorgeous. I just can’t get over the fact that we are so blessed to be able to use these stunning design in our creative journey. It’s a treat!

Quilting Tools and Notions I used:

Quilting Cross-Hatch

To finish it off, I decided on a simple cross-hatch quilting design, which I think perfectly suits the clean and classic look of the pattern. It added just the right amount of texture without overwhelming the beautiful fabric. I know I rarely do straight-line quilting, but I think the quilting pattern for this table runner just really need simple lines and the fabric design can speak for itself.

Binding it neutral

Since I didn’t have any yardage left from the collection, I had to get creative with the binding. I used the background fabric instead, and even though there wasn’t a border on this runner, I think the finish turned out quite charming. It blends seamlessly and lets the prints take center stage.

It’s Gifted!

And the best part? The final result exceeded my expectations! I loved it so much that I decided to gift it to my dear mum, who has always been such a cheerleader for my quilting adventures. Seeing her light up when she received it made every moment spent on this project worth it.
