I’m excited to share the finish of my Halloween Memories Table Runner! The Halloween Memories Quilt Along ran from August 20th to October 15th, but don’t worry if you missed it – you can join in anytime! The Halloween Memories book is packed with beautiful projects that you’ll love to make, so I highly recommend it. You can find all the quilt along details and fabric requirements HERE>

What is a Quilt Along?

For anyone new to quilt alongs, they’re a wonderful way to connect with fellow quilters, share progress, and get inspired by the creative community around you. These events are full of fun, motivation, and often new techniques to try. Seeing everyone’s unique take on the same pattern is always a delight and can spark your own creative ideas!

How to join in the Halloween Memories Quilt Along?

Simply start sewing with Fat Quarter Shop and all of the other quilters sewing along and post your progress on Instagram with the hashtag #HalloweenMemoriesQAL. If you don’t have Instagram, follow along Fat Quarter Shop Facebook Page to get  inspirations and post your progress there too. It is always fun to see the various version of the quilt using the same pattern!

Fabric for Halloween Memories Quilt Along

Well, you can go ahead and check out the choices over HERE>. But basically you can be as free as you want with your own choice of colour! You can even make it in other colours and make it not Halloween-ish! The pattern is so versatile for any colours for sure.

As for me, I use this bundle of goodness with a little hint of purple I picked to match the bundle. The bundle I’m using is called Pumpkin Licorice by Andover Fabric. You can find the bundle HERE> if it is still available. It’s the perfect blend of blacks and orange!

I am also using the paper piecing pads for making the square in a square units and the flying geese.

Table Runner

With all the small pieces in the pattern’s blocks, I opted for a table runner instead of a full quilt. A large quilt project just felt like too much for my current plate, and I knew that finishing a smaller piece would be more manageable – and just as satisfying! I adore the blocks, and making a table runner has allowed me to enjoy the project without feeling overwhelmed.

Free Motion Quilting Pumpkins

I decided to quilt with loops and fun little pumpkins using free-motion quilting on my home machine. The loops allow for boundless creativity, letting me add playful details while keeping the quilting process simple and enjoyable. I wanted something easy and subtle, so the quilt blocks could really shine on their own. Free-motion quilting with loops and pumpkins was such a joy, adding just the right touch without overwhelming the design!

Can you spot the pumpkins?

Of course, you can see it better on the backing of the table runner. I try to alternate one loop and a pumpkin as I go but the design itself is very flexible allowing you to travel with just simple loops and wavy pathway until there is placing for some pumpkin features.

Adding In Quilt Label

Adding a quilt label has become one of my favorite finishing touches, especially for smaller projects. Lately, I’ve been using small in-binding labels, which are both easy and charming. It’s such a time-saver since I printed a batch all at once, then sewed the edges to prevent fraying, so now they’re ready to go when needed! I created these labels using the technique I shared in my Quilt Label Wizard course. It’s a simple way to add a personalized touch to each quilt, ensuring each piece carries a bit of my signature and story.

I’m so happy with how the Halloween Memories Table Runner turned out! Even though I don’t celebrate Halloween, this runner is perfect as a cozy fall piece, bringing all those warm seasonal colors into my home. From the playful pumpkin quilting to the autumnal shades, it’s been such a fun project that adds just the right touch of fall charm. I hope you feel inspired to jump in and start your own version, whether it’s Halloween-themed or not! Thanks for following along on this quilted journey, and happy stitching! 🍂🧵
