I have always been a fan of colours and mix matching them.
No wonder I fell in love with quilting so fast. Once I knew quilting involves mix matching colours and patterns, I am all in for it.
Fabric mix or Designer Pick?
I must say my choice of colours and picking fabrics have evolved somewhat and I am more confident to pick my own set of fabrics rather than simply using single designers collection.
Although I must say, I still fell for buying precuts and bundles of fabric designed perfectly to match each other. They are so divine when bundle up together and I have little resistance not purchasing them as a whole.
Sometime, this route can saves a lot of time though, cause sometime all you want to do is stitch and quilt. So, I am not against it at all.
However, playing mix matching fabric can be fun too. In fact, each of the process that goes into making a quilt can be enjoyed at its own pace. Simply take time to enjoy picking the fabrics, cutting them up, piecing them together again, making quilt sandwiches, quilting it and finally binding it to complete.
Some of us may like one step over the other, but really each one of them can bring so much joy. And that is really something I look into when spending my time quilting. It is my route of escape from the busy world. It allows me to be creative and just exploring possibilities.
It is my play time.

Autumn / Fall Colour Palette
In this post I am going to share with you some inspiration of fabric picking based on autumnal colour palette.
Since I like to play with fabrics, I thought it would be great to pick some of my stash to match a colour palette already set from Design Seed.
I would love for you to join as well. Let’s shop your stash.
Here is the colour palette I chose from Design Seed website.

Fabric Color Palette Match
And here is my choice of fabrics from my stash:
Supertank Printer
I printed the colour palette photo using my Supertank Printer. If you have not yet bought into Refillable Ink Printers –> I am fully recommending it! I love my refillable ink printer. It is so easy for me to work on various craft project without worrying wasting expensive ink catridges cause they’re so much more affordable when you can refill the ink yourself.
In-store Fabric for Fall Colour Palette
If you yet still have a small stash, I will also provide with some fabric combo that you can purchase that will suit the colour palette too.
Here is a fabric selection that I picks within the colour palette and its available at the shop right now. You can find each of the fabric described in the link within the description.
- Wildflower Navy : Busy wildflowers, greyish navy with sparks of golden colours. I do love busy prints.
- A good buffalo check is always a good match. I love mix matching prints, and I think a check is a a good match to a lot of floral prints.
- I am in love with this floral navy! It just has the perfect mint and coral to it. Perfect as a base to this palette.
- Another checker patterns, diagonal and yellow. Don’t be afraid to mix match directions too.
- Add a little more fun with text based fabrics. This one says hello and it’s the perfect coral.
- Not so solid, but small light imprint can be a great blender to mix in with all the prints. It will surely give some more definition to the mix.
- Another wildflowers, subtle in color of the background, makes a perfect blending fabric
- With white flowers, this yellow fabric is just too cute to pass!
- I love a good stripe. This one is a sweet minted colour with double lines, a bold and a stitch looking lines.
- Add more fun by using some novelty like fabrics. This ones has cute pumpkins? Or is it candles? Anyway, I love the subtle minty grey background and the pop of oranges and blue on the fabric.
Will I make something out of this bundle? I am hoping so, simply playing with fabric here is already very inspiring on itself and helps trigger creativity and my sewjo.
I do love it!
What do you think? are you up for the challenge??
