I’ve got some exciting updates on the Scrappy Ocean Wave Quilt! This project is truly a labor of time and love, but I’m thrilled with the progress I’m making, bit by bit. The best part is that I’m not dedicating all my time to it, which keeps the process fun and engaging. I love being able to work on multiple projects simultaneously and still see progress on each one.

I am making this Scrappy Quilt from the half-square triangles unit that I cut using the half-square triangle die I got with my Accuquilt starter kit.

The best thing about cutting with Accuquilt is that it produces half-square triangles that I don’t have to trim. This feature alone makes the cutting process super fast and incredibly accurate. For scrappy quilts like this, where precision and speed are essential, I absolutely recommend using the Accuquilt. It saves so much time and ensures that every piece is perfectly cut, which is a game-changer for any quilter.accuquilt triangles cut

The cuts have dog ears trimmed, and once you press it opens, they are perfect squares!scrap quilt

Recent Scrappy Ocean Wave Quilt Progress

I love how the blocks look together on the wall now! All the pop of yellows and teal. I work with a lot of yellows in my previous quilts, so my scraps will have the same fabrics popping in too.

One of the ways to love working with scraps is to have a good mix of your favorite fabrics too. Cut them up, mix it in with those fabrics you don’t like to use and you’ll find that the final look will be great! Good use of the “ugly fabric” and the leftovers of good fabrics.

Right now I have 35 blocks. I’ll need 144 blocks to complete a 96″ square quilt, I still have a long way to go, but it is surely moving ahead! And I’m all about celebrating little progress here and there!

Although the colors are a bit unconventional together, they look surprisingly harmonious from a distance. That’s the magic of a scrap quilt!

These blocks finish at 8 inches. Each half-square triangle is 2.5 inches square, and I use four 2.5-inch light squares for each block.

I am planning to make a queen-size bed quilt with these, so there’s still a long way to go. But that’s okay, little by little and I am surely in no hurry! Creating this scrappy quilt little by little brings so much joy. The variety of fabrics and the unexpected color combinations make each step exciting. Stay tuned for more updates as this quilt comes together!

You can easily make this blocks by making half square triangle (HST) units from your scraps. You don’t have to use the Accuquilt , you can easily make lots of HSTs using other methods like the paper piecing methods HERE>
