I can’t believe that this one came together pretty quickly. It is surely a quilt in a day. I guess it is not a quilt yet, just a quilt top flimsy at the moment. But it came together in a few hours. So, technically if I did have the time to spend a couple more hours, it can become a fully finish quilt – in a day.
This pattern makes a perfect baby quilt. and the pattern is free….
I made it smaller than the one in the FREE pattern because I am making a baby quilt. I simply removed the bottom two ribbon rows and made a smaller quilt.

FREE Pattern: Ribbon Box Quilt
Quilting Tools and Notions I used:
- My trusted workhorse, Janome Horizon Memory Craft QCP8200
- So Fine Thread for piecing
- My ergonomic Rotary Cutter
- Large cutting Mat
- Wool ironing Mat (I have no issues with the smell, but sometimes it can burn if the iron is way too hot and no steam)
- Sets of Trimming Rulers (small rulers makes a difference when you need to trim small units)
- Portable Design Board. I made mine using this tutorial, but you can also purchase them here.
This one is made with fabrics with my stash and I simply started with the same colour palette as the quilt model in the pattern.
The cutting was easy for as long as you label the pieces.
Organization has to be one of the credit to getting things done quickly, efficiently with little mistakes.
I am just using handwritten labels torn from a piece of paper I can find laying around nearby. But I think getting one of those cute alphabitties is also awesome. Cute things make productivity a little more fun, right?
I also love my DIY portable design board. They keep the pieces well organized as I bring them to my sewing machine.
Another thing that will make this project a little easier is if you can have a design wall as you put the pieces together. I didn’t have one yet, but I have heard that the felt backing of this table cloth makes a great design wall.
I am yet to try that. As for now, I put the pieces on the floor, and organize them on the portable design board so I can chain piece it. Work with whatever you have.
Anyway, I am planning to add a custom name with my Cricut Maker as I did in this quilt here and then start quilting!
A cute backing is ready for basting this quilt.
My plan is to record the free motion quilting video to share over at Free Motion Quilting Bootcamp group. If you are interested to learn free motion quilting, I would love to invite you to join Free Motion Quilting Bootcamp today. See you there!

LOVE this, Amira. So appropriate for a little one, and soft looking.
I agree! Cute stuff makes the quilting more fun! I love gadgets and tools. Have to be careful not to leave my fabric budget short!
Thank you for all you share. TLMC is amazing with resources.
Looking forward to giving another run at Freemotion Boot Camp. Each time I return for a refresher I pick up new things that I have missed before. The Beta test version of Boot Camp was my birthday present to myself in 2019. Life has a way of rearranging plans despite our best efforts.
BLESSINGS to you and yours sweet maker!
See you on Facebook 😀
