As we step into a new year, there’s a special energy that comes with setting fresh goals and creating plans. For quilters like me, this means envisioning projects, organizing fabrics, and diving into patterns that have been waiting for their moment. Setting goals in quilting isn’t just about ticking off a to-do list—it’s about fostering creativity, bringing ideas to life, and building a sense of accomplishment one stitch at a time.

Joining a challenge for accountability

Goals give us direction and help us prioritize, but let’s face it, staying consistent can be a challenge. That’s where accountability comes in. Whether it’s a friend cheering you on, a group challenge, or even just sharing your plans online, having someone—or something—to keep you on track can make all the difference. This year, I’m joining a community of quilters in a challenge to tackle certain projects each month. It’s exciting to know that as I work on my list, I’ll be part of a larger movement of creators making progress on their own goals.

So this year, I’m joining in the Cookshed Challenge 2025 where we’ll be listing out 10 possible projects to work on in 2025 and they’ll be a random number each month. For me, this challenge is a way to stay motivated and ensure that I’ll get to progress some of my old WIPs or UFOs. It’s not about completing everything perfectly; it’s about progress. By setting achievable goals and connecting with others who share the same passion, I know I’ll be inspired to push forward, one project and one month at a time.

My 10 Quilt Project List to progress on in 2025

  1. Blue Quilt. Put together all the blue scrappy quilt blocksinto a quilt top. I have been stalling this project for years, and the main reason was because I am so stuck at choosing what fabric to use for the sashing of these blocks! I am just going with plain white or white on white. Keep it simple and let’s just move it on.
  2. Another quilt top to make – the layer cake spool. I just need to sew the blocks into rows and putting the rows together. I would also love to pick a backing and baste this right away. A bonus if I can quilt it right away! layer cake quilt free pattern layer cake spool
  3. Falling Leaves Quilt. This next one is the one  I wished to have done last fall but I am sad to say, I did not touch it at all. So, I’ll be putting this one on the list.
  4. Continue custom quilting Aviatrix Medallion. I have this quilt folded next to my machine for the whole of 2024, and I’m so sure that I was going to make some progress but I am sure that 2024 went past so quick! So, Here’s to an accountability so that I get to work on this for the year 2025.
  5. Make Progress on 2024 Designer Mystery Quilt. At least piece all the blocks and the sashing.
  6. I also did not touch my EPP project, the grandmothers mother garden in 2024, so definitely missed that! I am going to make few more flower blocks, and start basting the low volume hexagons for the sashings. hexagon-english-paper-piecing-grandmother-flower-garden-quilt-project-
  7. Barn Star Sampler . I am way behind on this, it was a QAL but I fall off the bandwagon and the train have reached their final destination. But, I am okay to just continue making few more blocks this year, and just maybe, if I put an effort to focus on just one project in one month, I might get a little more done for this quilt.
  8. Quilting this Simply Star Table Topper. I stalled on this for quite a while, as I’m not so sure to add more borders to make it bigger into a bed quilt or just keep it as a Table Topper. As I’m writing this, I am still thinking of it! So let’s just hope I just get it over and get quilting!
  9. Sewcialite II Quilt. Pick a backing and baste this quilt. And maybe start quilting. Maybe if I keep the quilting simple, I am able to complete it in a month time too. It’s a gigantic quilt. Depending on what other things I have in that month though. So, here’ s to hoping at least I get to baste and get it ready for quilting.
  10. Sew the final 5 blocks and Cut all sashing strips for the Summer Memories Quilt.

Well, that’s my list! My plan is to update you at the end of each selected month with the progress!

  1. I reread your page twice and thought that 1 PHD (project half done) 1 month to complete it. Seems manageable to me. Let’s see how I go during January. I chose one of the larger PHD I have in a storage box. Would love to see it finished. Will look it out and send you a picture. It was supposed to be needle turned appliqué but as my hands couldn’t do that, I turned the design into an embroidery blocks. The blocks need framing then put together with 21/2” squares. I miss cut the some the the bigger blocks when tidying up their shapes and there they have sat for many a year. Fingers crossed that I can find all my fabrics etc. I have gotten myself a nice note pad and hope to journal the month of January.
