Here is a little update on my Moda Block Heads 4 Quilt.

This is a free quilt along hosted by Moda Fabrics and the blocks are designed by different Moda designers. You can access the Free Patterns for each of the quilt blocks HERE>

The pattern for the blocks comes in two sizes, and I am making both since I am planning to do the finishing setting layout 3.

There are a couple of different settings provided on the archive page as well as the requirements for the quilt.

I am working with Kate Spain’s older line layer cake plus some extra fabrics from my stash.

I am a little behind with this quilt along, but I just want to keep at my own pace and catch up whenever I can.

Currently, at the point of writing this, the quilt along is on Block 9, and I have done Block 8, 7, 6, 4, and 3.

Not in order, just simply whichever is current when I have the time to sew it. No pressure, just having fun here.

So far,

I love the challenge of making the smaller blocks.

I am so glad I decided to starch these fabrics before I even started. That really does help me get more accuracy when piecing and makes it easier for me to handle the small little units.

If you want to try fabric starching, you can use this spray starch or make yourself a homemade starch like this one.

I am loving the colours I am working with.

The bright pinks and blues and having these blocks on my design wall (batting hung on a wall) really brighten up my sewing space.

The larger blocks were easy to make as compared to the smaller ones. After I pieced one of the smaller ones, it was like a breeze going through the larger blocks.

Eat the frog first and it’ll make the harder task easier.

Well, I am planning to do a little more catch-up this weekend for Moda Block Heads 4 and my Riley Blake Block Challenge I posted earlier.

I have 2 more quilt-along that I’ll be joining in June and that is going to be so much fun!

You can check those out now and even get a kit or use your seasonal stash to join along:

The quilt I made last year was so much fun that I decided to join again this year. They make the cutest blocks.

Well, that is it for an update, I hope you have a lovely week of quit

  1. They all are very pretty! I always starch first; it makes cutting more precise and I believe easier. I know there are great recipes for homemade starch but I really LIKE Best Press, so whenever I find it on sale, I’ll buy a gallon.
I looked over your six tips too, they’re really useful – thank you! The only thing I might add is ALWAYS wear a protective glove. Few people are as klutzy as I am, but accidents do happen and they are not fun. I once needed to have a hand surgeon stitch me back together after I sliced diagonally across my thumbnail. The healing process and nail regrowth took a long time. Please, be smarter than I was.
