Rolling Out the Another Magic Carpet:
Here is another table runner just recently finished. This table runner was such a joy to make, featuring the lush greens from the Green Field collection. With just a few simple tweaks, I turned this layer cake into two stunning, nature-inspired runner that’s perfect for any table and any season! I’ve blogged about the first one a couple of month ago HERE> and in this post, I’ll share you a similar but different version. How fun that you can get few projects out of one layer cake!
Layer Cake – 10 inch stack fabric
Some projects just come together perfectly, and this one was definitely one of them! It all started when I grabbed the Green Field 10” stack (my favorite layer cake of fabric lately) by Lisa Audit for Wilmington Prints. The gorgeous shades of green were impossible to resist, especially since I got it at half price during a daily deal from Missouri Star Quilt Co.. Of course, I couldn’t stop there—I added a mini bolt of matching green fabric and a pattern called Magic Carpet to my order. Isn’t it fun when delivery time feels lightning-fast, and you can jump into your project right away?
Layout Change for the Magic Carpet Quilt Pattern
As for this one, I ended up switching the pattern layout to better fit the fabrics I chose. The fabric selection really shines, and I love how simple yet stylish it looks! This runner is slightly slimmer than the first one I made, making it a great table topper for my dining table or even a narrow side table.
Quilting Tools and Notions I used:
- My trusted workhorse, Janome Horizon Memory Craft QCP8200
- Aurifil Thread 50Wt for piecing and Quilting
- My ergonomic Rotary Cutter
- Large cutting Mat
- Wool ironing Mat (I have no issues with the smell, but sometimes it can burn if the iron is way too hot and no steam)
- Sets of Trimming Rulers (small rulers makes a difference when you need to trim small units)
- Stripology Ruler ( Absolutely love this ruler – makes cutting lots of tiny pieces and strips so easy, I even used it for cutting binding strips)
- Curvy Safety pins or basting spray
- colourful covers for pins
After making the blocks, I followed the pattern layout but found it a little plain with the colors I chose. So, I experimented with the layout and ended up with two options: one with darker triangles in opposite directions and another with diamond-shaped darker triangles.
Free Motion Quilting Zig Zag
For quilting, I went with a zigzag free-motion quilting design. It’s quick, fun, and one of my go-to patterns when I need a speedy finish. With my trusty rotary cutters by my side, the piecing was easy and relaxing—just what I needed. This was the perfect project for a laid-back weekend!
Honestly, projects like this remind me why I love working with jelly rolls, charm packs, and fat quarter bundles. There’s so much versatility, and it’s exciting to dream up new ways to use them. I even think this design would work great for matching place mats!

Stocking up Quilted Table Runner for gifts
This quilted table runner is destined to be a gift! I’ve started collecting a few table runners to give to friends and family next year, hoping they’ll enjoy decorating their spaces with them. For now, here it is on my dining table! Of course, it won’t stay there during meals—our family has plenty of well-loved placemats that have already been sacrificed to spills and stains. 😂 While I treasure the memories behind some of my “love-filled” quilt stains, I’m letting this one stay pristine for its future home!

Now that this runner is done, I’m eyeing the rest of my stash and thinking about what’s next. Maybe another layer cake or finally tackling that wish list of patterns I’ve been hoarding! Have you worked on any table runner patterns lately? They’re such a satisfying way to add a pop of personality to your space.
Future Project with Magic Carpet Quilt Pattern
Since I still feel like I need to remake this pattern with more colors, I’ll try and make one with the Strawberry Lemonade Collection by Sherri and Chelsea. I just love the vibrant colors in this collection. You can still find this collection in the store like Missouri Star Quilt Co or Fat Quarter Shop as they have just reprinted the collection.

Hi Amira! I truly understand how busy life gets. I
so enjoy your blog and info you provide. I love the colors on the table runner. The soft, muted colors really appeal to me.
The colors from the strawberry lemonade line will make a beautiful table runner ( or anything else).
