I’m so thrilled to finally share the finished Jelly Roll Quilt Spinner with you—and let me tell you, I’m in love. 😍 This quilt turned out even better than I imagined, and I just can’t get over how magical the rainbow ombré jelly roll looks with this pattern. The colors seem to dance and swirl with every block—like the quilt is spinning with joy!
This particular jelly roll was such a beautiful collection to work with. I really feel like the ombré effect brought the quilt to life, highlighting the motion in the design – can you the illusion of a reflection shining from the quilt due to the lighter shades of the ombre?
This pattern is free for all my lovely newsletter subscribers, so don’t miss your chance to grab it and sew along! In the video, I take you through the whole process—and yep, I even show you the mistake I made so you don’t have to repeat it. Learn from my oopsie!
But honestly? I’m convinced this jelly roll quilt pattern would look amazing in any jelly roll—whether you prefer soft florals, bold brights, or soothing neutrals. It’s one of those patterns that just knows how to make fabric shine ✨.
A Little Improvisation: The Binding Adventure
Let’s talk about that binding, shall we?
I had this one little leftover piece of a rainbow stripe from the Make collection by Kristy Lea—it was a leftover from my previous project HERE, and when I auditioned it for the binding, my heart said yes! 💖
But there was one little problem… I didn’t have enough.
And since this fabric isn’t available in many places anymore, I didn’t want to order and wait (you know how impatient we quilters can be when a finish is in sight!). So, I decided to make do with what I had: I cut my rainbow stripe into 1” strips—which gave me enough length, but not enough width to bind with comfortably.
So I got creative. I pieced the 1″ rainbow strips to 1.5″ solid white strips, creating a two-part binding. On the front, it looks like a normal stripey binding—but flip it over and you’ll see a peek of the white strip on the back. Not traditional, maybe a bit unconventional, but I actually love how it turned out. And more importantly, that little precious piece of rainbow binding found its place on a finished quilt 🥹.
Flower Echoes for the Win
For the quilting, I chose a flower echoes motif—a design I’ve done before on this quilt HERE . It’s soft and organic and has just the right amount of movement without being too dense. It added a lovely texture that complements the swirling motion of the blocks without overwhelming them.
I love that the quilting came together quickly too—sometimes it’s nice to have a finish that doesn’t take days at the machine, right?
The Finishing Touch: Quilt Label Love
One thing I always try to remember to do is label my quilts—and I was especially happy with this one. I used a label from my own Quilt Label Wizard Course, and it made the finish feel extra special. There’s just something about adding a little personal touch, a signature of sorts, that makes a quilt feel complete.
If you’ve been skipping labels, let this be your nudge to give it a go! It’s a beautiful way to honor your work and create a story for someone to discover later on 💌.
