What do you do when your handmade item is all worn out and used.

Do you feel sad when it is time to let them go?

I am about to tell you my story. Please bear with the drama. 😛

Decluttering Saying goodbye to worn out handmade items. the method I used.

I am decluttering the house again for the millionth time. Though there are still piles of things that I consider junks and really wonder why I bought them in the first place.

However many times I declutter, there are always these handmade items that seem to find its way back into the house and failed to go out. I am guilty of taking them back into the house from the throw-away box or donation box.

But whenever I see them again after a while, I feel sad. Sad cause they’re worn out, stained and old already.

Sad cause it made me felt like I should’ve taken better care of them.

And they take my mental space.

I am reminded that I need to replace them, but honestly, when shall I have time to sew these projects?

Sometimes, I also think that I might, just might have the right idea what to do with them, repurpose them or something.

Who am I kidding? I don’t have time to finish the projects I have on the never-ending list. When will I ever get to them.

LEtting go of worn handmade items_decluttering

The same feeling came when I declutter this time. These items were already in the box until I found a few more. Then I started to rethink.

And it was about to go into the same cycle again.

And then….. I paused. An idea came by and I think it’s time.

It is time. Time to let them go.

And honestly, they have done their part. They were used well, washed often and they have finally come to an end.

I got this idea of writing this post as a sign of real parting. As a way to properly say goodbye to these handmade items. I thank them for the joy they bring and it is okay to let them go.

This is something I learned from Marie. I could listen to this book again and again through my Audible and still love it. I make use of the things I learned in there. And this is one of them.

Most of these items are blogged.

And today is another post just to finally present them for the last time.

And then they basically remain in memory and already in the blog.

Goodbye Tea Cosy

Goodbye Bottle Cosy

Goodbye Cushion Cover

Goodbye triangle pouch and nancy drew pouch

Goodbye Ruby Table Runner

You’ve all done well, gave me joy and I am letting go.

Sorry that you have to bear with me with the drama of this process; parting with my handmade items. But I feel like this is finally it. Finally the way and the time for me to let these go. Out of sight, out of my home.

Hopefully, they clear up my mental space for better things and allows me to create more handmade items!

Do you have issues throwing out handmade items? Or maybe some old unfinished projects (UFO?)

comment down below, I’d love to hear it.

Well, I wouldn’t throw anything out that had those delightful DS prints in it! I hope they didn’t go in the rubbish bin, but to your local op shop instead!

  2. It is hard for me to throw away used pouches, etc that I have sewn. Some of them are faded from getting wet and I still use them. I need to sew new ones but don’t have the time, either.

  3. I have a terrible time recycling things I’ve “loved to pieces”!
    -Jean?

  4. I let mine go to Goodwill unless a relative made it. If someone that I love made it, it stays with me.

If in good condition I donated to a Salvation Army Store, if not I cut it up, put in a pillow case with fabric sewing scraps and donate to my local Humane Society.

  6. Thanks for good ideas when I hate parting with things that gave such pleasure for so long.
