Here’s a progress post on my Bobbin Bloom quilt where I’m custom quilting it with some feathers and some grid diamond in the sashing. I had the idea to custom quilt this thinking it would be pretty quick as it is such a small quilt.

However, I’m a little slow on this since I have a little more on my plate with demanding daily kids’ activities too. I have a couple of quilting projects that are calling me too and I guess free motion quilting will take longer days these days. But progress is always progress and it’s a blessing to get some time in the sewing room to simply have fun and quilt.

This quilt is a pattern from one fo the Sew Sampler Box a while back and I recorded the process of makign the quilt before HERE> It is always exciting to sew projects from these boxes and to use them up. I have a stack of them ready for me to just dive in, so it’s always a great feeling when I accomplish to get the projects done. The design was so charming, and I knew I wanted to make each flower pot stand out with custom free-motion quilting. Feathers were on my mind, so I made some light markings and just went for it. I went with free-forming feather designs within the tulip petals and leaves. For the pots themselves, I chose simple, distanced lines.  As for the background, I decided on a meandering pattern to keep things flowing.

Initially, I thought about meandering the sashing as well. However, I felt a spark of inspiration and decided to try out some diamond features to make the quilt pop. I hesitated at first because I knew the diamonds would require a lot of markings. I’m not a fan of marking quilts. It adds an extra step, and I usually mark little sections at a time to ensure the lines stay visible. Leaving markings on the quilt for too long can cause them to fade, wasting precious time and effort.

Today, I finished all the quilting on the tulip pots and moved on to the sashing! I’m so pleased with how it’s turning out — just as I had imagined. It turns out that marking the diamond grids wasn’t as time-consuming as I thought. I don’t know why I dislike markings so much, because they truly do make the quilting neater and more precise.

Since we’re heading to the beach this weekend, I’m setting the quilt aside for now. But I can’t wait to get back to it and finish it off. I’m hoping to wrap it up next week and then move on to quilting the Star of Wonder Quilt !  So many projects that just gets me so excited to be in my sewing room. Can dinners wait? LOL.
