Making my first block for the Barn Star Sampler Quilt
I am finally going through my Anna Maria Horner’s stash and I have decided to mix it up with Tula Pink Tiny Dots and Stripes and the Tiny Beast Collection to have more varieties.
They’ll be the perfect bundle to make this fun star quilt with all those deep colours!
I love the colours of my Tula Pink 100 days 100 blocks Quilt HERE, and this would be another bright quilt for sure!
As I mentioned in the previous blogpost where I posted the list of the fun quilt along for 2023 HERE, I was only going to be using only Anna Maria Horner’s (AMH) Fabrics and some backgrounds.
However, as I picked my fabric for the first block, I know that I WAS NOT going to be brave mixing up all the florals bright motifs light how Anna always does with her quilts.
I still fell like I needed the smaller prints to get a good balance.
And it was so hard to cut off those beautiful prints with large motifs!
I love Anna’s work and but I find that I am not that much into clashing patterns in my patchworking process.
However, the lessons I got from Anna’s Class HERE> was surely useful and I still use the ideas and lessons I learned in the classroom my work these days. I am just not that brave just yet to mix up all the patterns together.
And that is why I decided to bring in my new Tula Pink Bundle to help bring the calmness to the overall quilt. Some smaller prints to let the larger prints shine.
It was hard to break the bundle cause it was so pretty bundles up!
Do you feel the same when you want to work with your stash?
First Block of my Barn Star Quilt!
The Tula Pink Tiny Beast Bundle have similar colours to my stash of AMH’s and I am loving this idea and can’t wait to see the quilt comes together.
Here is my first block for the quilt for this Barn Star Sampler Quilt! This was surely not that easy! It is a big block for sure! But I am definitely loving the combo of Tula Pink Tiny Beast and the florals from AMH!
I love how the pop of pinks just shine in the quilt block. AMH and Tula Pink’s work and colours are just stunning. We are so blessed to be using their talents in our own work too!
Quilting Tools and Notions I used:
- My trusted workhorse, Janome Horizon Memory Craft QCP8200
- I used Superior Thread Snow for piecing this quilt
- My favourite Ergonomic Rotary Cutter – this have saved my wrist a lot!
- Large cutting Mat
- Stripology Mini Squared Ruler – I trimmed all my HSTs for this quilt with this tool. Love it.
- Wool ironing Mat (I have no issues with the smell, but sometimes it can burn if the iron is way too hot and no steam)
- Oliso Pro Iron (I love this Iron, it lifts as you let go, saving the wrist from too much work and it gives a good heat and steam)
- Portable Design Board
- Quilter’s Clapper
- Wooden Seam Roller
Fabrics Used for the Block:
Well, I am a little behind on the quilt along, but I am surely taking my time and just have the quilt along as a motivation for me to keep going with this quilt.
